for my letterforms of “splatter”, i wanted to create a sense of a central mass being the letter itself and a surrounding presence of the splatter. i placed these digital “splats” off the parts of the letters where the motion of the hand creating the letter would begin, stop, or turn.

for my letterforms of “defamatory”, i tried creating a feeling of break down. to defame something is to an attempt to cut something short or make a derogatory statement about it. i used a large grid so that the letters were basic and bold and then i negated the squares in the grid from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. this created a slash through the already abstract letterform as an attempt to cut it down, defame it.
