New Center Park is about 1.5 miles north of campus. During the summer they have Wednesday and Friday night movies and special events (mainly concerts) on Thursdays and Saturdays! Chairs are provided but I encourage you to bring a blanket and a friend! Did I mention it’s all FREE? Drinks and refreshments are sold at the park bar. Find out more on their website!
Start your weekend early! Every Thursday evening during the summer, this beautiful mansion/restaurant will be holding outdoor parties (for those of you 21+)! $5 cover, $5 craft beers, $5 brats. A different band will be performing every week! If you’ve never been to The Whitney, I highly encourage attending one of these parties to see the amazing decor!
Green Garage is an organization whose goal is to help Detroit become a more sustainable city. Every Friday they welcome the public into their space to speak about the week’s topic. The best part is that tours and information about their amazingly beautiful and ecologically friendly building is also available. Oh, and don’t forget to bring a brown bag lunch with you!
Every weekend The Detroit Bus Company offers $30 tours through the city on their super cool buses. So if you haven’t been far past campus, or the Midtown/Downtown area, then I suggest you make time to explore a little more of the city!
Nothing much better than the bustling sheds of Eastern Market on a Saturday morning! If you haven’t been, then I highly suggest you go! If you don’t need to buy produce (which is quality and cheap there!), then visit the various local vendors or just enjoy the scenery!
Got a bike? Then ya gotta Slow Roll on Mondays! Every week this casual bike ride takes off and ends at a different location. Come join the party on wheels!
Who says the weekend has to end on Sunday? Not I! Every Monday Garden Bowl has their $7 special – 1 slice of pizza, 1 hour of bowling, shoe rental, and 1 beer or pop! Definitely can’t beat that!
Campus Martius will be hosting FREE movies every Saturday night for the month of August! Bring your favorite blankets and some snacks and enjoy an evening with the big screen!
