The holidays are over, winter semester is well underway, and first exams are soon approaching! Take a study break and enjoy some of the awesome things happening here in the D this weekend!
Want to stay warm this weekend? No Problem! The Oscars are held at the end of February every year, and the Detroit Film Theater (inside the DIA) offers an awesome chance to catch some of the nominated films! Every weekend in February, the DIA gives you the chance to see both the animated and live action Oscar nominated short films. Short films pack a whole story into a shortened amount of time, so they tend to be quite interesting and varied. This event is the most popular annual event held at the DFT and it’s walking distance from campus, so I DEFINITELY recommend checking it out! Tickets to the films are under $10, and if you remember your student ID, they do offer a student discount!
Even colder than you thought and can’t walk all the way to the DIA? How about something even closer! The World’s Got Talent, a concert to showcase the richness of diversity meanwhile fundraising for good causes, is being held ON CAMPUS this weekend. The show, presented by Wayne State University Student Organizations and The International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit Global Education Department, was planned to support local and international children and youth organizations with a focus on feeding children in war zones. Come check it out this Saturday at the Community Arts Auditorium!

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard about the water crisis in Flint. Wayne State University is doing its part by hosting a water drive through Sunday the 31st! Bring all water donations to the Hilberry Theater from noon to 6 PM.
