Joe is a blue-collar worker at the factory. Since he secretly wanted to be a professional football player when he was younger, he longs to be known for something special. He has hairy arms, drinks a lot of beer, and hangs out at the bar all the time with the guys. They play cards and eat pizza. Joe is really burly and a mans man. His tastes are earthy and simple. Often, Joe underestimates himself. One night he came across a war documentary on the History Channel while searching for the game. Another time at the bookstore, while browsing the magazines, he found a poetry book. His dad was really tough and Italian. He and his brothers were made to be tough as well and his dad was often cold to them. Joe loved playing football with his dad when he was younger. His mom was also Italian. She was loud and wore too much lipstick. His parents are still alive and he goes to visit them for dinner sometimes. They try to hook him up with girls from church but he always gets embarrassed and doesn’t say much. He is a border with an old woman who he helps up the stairs. She really feels safe that a nice strong guy lives in her building and she makes him ravioli and tries to gossip with him.
