SUNY Cortland – Director of the Institute for College Teaching

SUNY Cortland, a comprehensive college within the State University of New York system has received funding from SUNY system to create an on-going Institute for College Teaching.

The Director of the Institute for College Teaching is a newly created position, reporting to the dean of the School of Education, and responsible for leading efforts to refine the mission and strategic goals of the Institute in collaboration with stakeholders (e.g., academic deans, faculty, and other employees in offices that support student learning). The director will conduct a needs assessment to determine on-going teaching needs and faculty interests, will create mechanisms for addressing needs, and develop a faculty fellows program whereby faculty can share their teaching expertise with peers. The director will provide administrative management of the Institute (e.g., budget, supervision of staff and faculty fellows, planning, and on-going assessment) and SUNY Cortland campus leadership through personal vision and ability to collaborate with campus and SUNY system colleagues.

Required qualifications: Master’s degree, at least 5 years progressively responsible experience in an educational environment including leadership responsibilities, effective communication skills, work experience relevant to teaching and learning effectiveness, experience teaching at the college level, demonstrated proficiency using technology for educational purposes.

Preferred qualifications: Master’s or doctorate degree in education or related discipline, knowledge of using alternative teaching delivery including online education, experience in developing professional development programs for faculty, demonstrated record of cultural competency and active engagement in diversity, equity and inclusive initiatives.
