We are currently seeking a Teaching and Learning Coordinator and an Instructional Support Specialist
You will join a highly-collaborative team of faculty development and instructional design staff who support faculty, academic supportive professional staff, and graduate teaching assistants through a variety of programs, resources, and services in fulfilling Northern Illinois University’s mission on excellence in teaching and scholarly activities.
TEACHING AND LEARNING COORDINATOR
We are looking for a reflective, service-oriented individual who has deep knowledge of theory and research on teaching and learning, has advanced experience teaching in higher education, and is comfortable working both collaboratively and independently. The individual in this role will offer programs and consultations to faculty, teaching staff and teaching assistants on basic to advanced teaching methods and strategies for face-to-face and online courses, including offering classroom teaching observations.
INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT COORDINATOR
We are looking for a service-oriented and self-motivated individual who is familiar with technologies to support teaching and learning, can learn new technologies quickly, and is comfortable working both collaboratively and independently. The individual in this role will offer programs and consultations to faculty, teaching staff and teaching assistants on basic to advanced use of NIU’s learning management system (Blackboard) and related instructional technologies. They will also provide leadership in supporting existing and new implementations of technologies for teaching and learning by researching potential technologies, analyzing technology performance, and developing planning, implementation, and training plans.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Both positions require either Master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy AND Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas: professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching OR a Baccalaureate degree AND 18 months of experience.
In addition, the Teaching and Learning Coordinator position requires demonstrated work experience teaching in a post-secondary educational environment and knowledge of instructional technology platforms. The Instructional Support Coordinator position requires demonstrated work experience with learning management systems and web conferencing platforms suitable for a higher education environment.
