Focus: HOPE is Recruiting for AmeriCorps VISTA Members

Focus: HOPE is recruiting for three AmeriCorps VISTA positions which will serve from May 14, 2018 through May 13, 2019. We are asking for your assistance in helping us find strong candidates who can commit to a year of service, work hard to build capacity for the work of Focus: HOPE, and support our community as a whole. Passionate volunteers needed for AmeriCorps VISTA positions at Focus: HOPE! Excellent opportunity for recent college grads, retirees, those looking for experience in a new field, and all who are dedicated to serving others.

VISTA Member will develop recruitment strategies for the Volunteers and Community Outreach Department to engage new volunteers and retain previous volunteers with the assistance of varies technological outlets. The VISTA member will also design a process to increase volunteer relations between departments include restructure of the volunteer on-boarding processes and volunteer recognition program.

After becoming familiar with Focus: HOPE’s grant writing and research procedures, the VISTA member will write grants, proposals, letters of inquiry per prospect strategy, assist with management of grants tracking spreadsheet, assist with grants boilerplate project that organizes frequently-used proposal component parts, and research grant prospects

The responsibility of the Community Empowerment Specialist is to build the capacity for resident-led projects in the community. This person will develop and lead a process for training residents to manage volunteers. S/he will likewise develop and lead a process for connecting the thousands of volunteers that look to Focus: HOPE for opportunities to provide service to viable community projects. His/her contribution will enhance and allow some redirection of the staff time devoted to planning and executing projects while increasing both resident time and total output of projects.

Brief overview of AmeriCorps VISTA expectations and benefits

VISTA members serve full-time for one year with a nonprofit organization, working to build capacity and reduce poverty. VISTA members are volunteers and are given a modest living allowance of $11,800 per year, dand an education award of $5,815 upon completion of their year of service (or they may choose a $1,500 cash stipend).
