The Youth Safety Advocate works as a member of the building’s student support team to promote positive student behavior throughout the school.  Demonstrated human relations skills, excellent communication skills, attendance, and punctuality are required.  Demonstrated ability to interact with students, parents, staff, and community in a tactful and courteous manner.  Must also be able to work in a diverse environment and participate as a member of the team.

Duties &  Responsibilities:

  • Supervise all unstructured time of students including before and after school, lunches, and passing time.
  • Provide support to teachers with non-compliant students as needed.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of all buses.  Provide assistance to bus drivers as requested.
  • Serve as the daytime security person checking in all visitors and directing walk-in traffic.
  • Report all safety hazards and unsafe conditions to building administration.
  • Investigate and report, on MPS incident reporting system, all incidents related to building safety and security.
  • Provide security at school athletic events, parent teacher conferences, graduation and other school related functions as authorized and directed.
  • Provide regular updates to Administration regarding student related issues.
  • Assist in conducting and facilitating student support groups and other student activities that make students feel positively connected and positively engaged in school life.
  • Assist in monitoring student attendance, behavior, grades, credits earned and implementing and evaluating plan of improvement.
  • Participate in training programs as requested.
  • Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents and the community in a positive, supportive, cooperative way.


  • Associates or higher degree including related college coursework; or have completed 60 credit hours; or passed the state approved WorkKeys test.
  • Must meet Highly Qualified requirements
