2016 Summer Youth Employment Program

The Transition to Independence Program at Wayne State has been designated to provide placement of youth participating in the 2016 Growing Detroit Youth Talent (GYDT) Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). Our office is responsible for placing youth with foster care history throughout the university, based on their individual interest, and with a site that is best suited to meet the needs of the student and of the department/program.

We are looking to recruit faculty and staff that are willing to supervise youth who are employed in this program. Those who express interest will be provided more information of what the non-financial work agreement would entail. Expressed interest does not ensure that a youth is placed at your site. We try and make the experience as rewarding as possible, therefore, we will place youth that are the best fit for the program or department. A SYEP informational sheet has been attached and provides additional information regarding the program and work site job duties as defined in the contract.

If you would be interested in participating in this exciting and rewarding experience, please contact Airika Buford, Communications and Outreach Coordinator/SYEP work site Placement Manager at 313-577-0433 or at, no later than April 8, 2016.
