Under supervision of prevention staff, the Assistant Substance Abuse Prevention Counselor is responsible for assisting with the promotion, development, presentation and evaluation of all prevention programs offered by the Oakwood Taylor Teen Health Center. These prevention programs emphasize skill building and focus on risk reduction and prevention through the use of interactive educational activities, recreation, role-playing, etc. The primary topics of the programs are violence prevention, ATOD prevention, conflict resolution, self-esteem, communication skills and ways to deal with negative peer pressure. The Assistant Prevention Counselor will also be responsible to assist with the S.A.V.E Peer Education trainings and presentations and co-supervise the teen educators at all programs.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma. Associate’s Degree or enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program preferred.
- Experience: Two years experience working with youth in group setting, working knowledge of group work, recreational programming, arts and crafts, substance abuse prevention and adolescents.
- Skills & Abilities: Problem solving, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, knowledge of learning principles, strong community organizing skills, knowledge of adolescents and children.
