Job Title: Career Advisor

Division/Department: Member Career Services
Location: Detroit, MI

Salary: base and bonus based on performance metrics
Reports to: Career Services Manager

The Career Advisor manages a case-load of job seekers in the Detroit area assessing and developing training and career goals to assist in their gainful employment. The work environment is fast-paced and performance-based. Individuals must be motivated and have a strong desire and passion to help others.

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Prior experience and/or educational background in case management, social work or related work
• Experience or a strong desire to work with individuals to assist in their career path
• Successful experience working with the public in a positive and professional manner at all times
• Demonstrated superior written and oral skills
• Experience with managing measurable targets for customers
• Demonstrated experience managing a large volume of data and files with accuracy and speed
• Ability to develop and implement a personalized employment strategy (IEP)
• Desire to work with a diverse population of customers with varying needs
• Knowledgeable of resources available for customers and connect them to clients as needed
• Proficient use of technology such as Microsoft Office and database programs. SalesForce experience preferred

• Gathers information on work history and educational background, credentials, skills and career interests
• Accurately manages/documents customer information in case management database
• Coaches/Assists customers to structure an optimal mix of pre-employment activities
• Assists customers in accessing education/training and support services
• Assists customers in identifying in-demand occupations and career ladders
• Identifies qualified candidates for open job orders as generated by Account Managers
• Assist customers in developing a self-directed job search strategy
• Must assist customers in their search with empathy, dignity and firmness
• Monitors customer service and response time
• Performs other duties as assigned

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports to business leaders, managers and staff. Ability to speak effectively before managers and staff.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, businesses and community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness and in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
