DIA Photography Exhibit: Photographs from the Detroit Walk-In Portrait Studio by Corine Vermeulen
If you are looking for something to do during the winter break, check out what’s showing in the photography area at the DIA.
Photographs from the Detroit Walk-In Portrait Studio is currently running at the Detroit Institute of Arts and features portraits of Detroiters that are revealing of the city’s diversity and character. Photographer Corine Vermeulen, commissioned by the DIA for this project, took photos beginning in the summer of 2013 by setting up temporary portrait studios throughout the city. The exhibit contains these photos along with descriptions of the people and locations, setting up for a compelling array of Detroit’s people. When I visited a few weeks ago, I felt an immediate sense of comradery for Detroiters and found myself smiling at and empathizing with the stories of those photographed. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to visit this exhibit.
Photographs from the Detroit Walk-In Portrait Studio opened November 14, 2014 and runs until May 17, 2015.
