Thurs., Aug. 25

Research Refresher 
Held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. in room 101 School of Social Work and facilitated by Neva Nahan, coordinator for research.  This workshop is designed to be of value to those who have completed their first research methods and statistics course but would like to refresh their knowledge and skills in preparation for the next level research course. Open to BSW/MSW students.  RSVP to attend by Aug. 24 at

Volunteer Fair
Held from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Student Center Building Hilberry B & C (2nd floor).  This fair will allow students the opportunity to meet with potential volunteer agencies for the upcoming academic year.  
Fri., Aug. 26 – School of Social Student Organization 2016-2017 Academic Year Kick-Off Meeting.  Held from 12:30 to 3 p.m. in room 101, School of Social Work. Annually, all students are provided with the opportunity to organize in their own interest through the university and School of Social Work.  We are planning to continue our focus on social justice and multicultural engagement, joining together to provide support and programming in the upcoming year.

Tues., Aug. 30 – Successfully planning and drafting a social work research paper
Held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room 101 School of Social Work and facilitated by Derek Risse, writing assistance program staff member.  This workshop will cover a range of topics related to researching and writing in social work. Participants will learn how to develop a strong research question and research plan, locate relevant scholarship using databases and related library resources, develop a project outline, and properly organize and reference research.  The workshop is open to all BSW and MSW students.  RSVP to attend at

Thurs., Sept. 29 – Reality of Recovery:  An evening with Jeff VanVonderen

7 to 9 p.m. at the Wayne County Community College District Downriver Campus, 21000 Northline Rd., Taylor, MI.  Register to attend at   

Oct.  8 – Second Annual School of Social Work Gala and Silent Auction, Student Center Ballroom.  More details to follow.

Thurs., Oct. 27 – FREE flu shot available to all WSU students – Available from noon to 4 p.m. in Room 0116 Old Main.  More details to follow.

  • MSW committee – Need an IP and I-CPL student – Meeting are held on the 2nd Monday of every month at 10:30 a.m.

Work study student wanted.  The Substance Abuse Research Division in the School of Medicine (Dept. of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences) has posted an announcement for a work-study eligible student assistant.
