Nasty new phishing trick, May 5–NOT from Amazon.com

I’ve now had two messages purportedly from Amazon confirming the cancellation of an order. Except it wasn’t something I ordered.
They included an order number (as a link) for more details, but when I hovered over it I saw a suspicious looking URL (web address), located in German (somethingorother.de). Clearly not from Amazon. Needless to say I didn’t click on it.
Neither should you.

How to read a ‘popular’ science article

Occasionally I read boingboing.net, hosted by Cory Doctorow, who’s written extensively on the future of technology. Although not directly related to the central topic of this blog, I found this very interesting, and very valuable. Especially speaking as (wearing my other hat) a scientist in a field whose research is often misunderstood and misreported:
