NextEnergy Seeks Research Analyst
NextEnergy is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Detroit, dedicated to serving as an accelerator for technology development and deployment in advanced and renewable energy. NextEnergy is offering an opportunity to play a key role in developing and growing Michigan’s advanced-energy economy as a research analyst.
The research analyst would serve as a critical member in NextEnergy’s Industry and Venture Development team, researching energy markets, trends in funding (public, private), and the state-of-the-art in emerging technology development. This individual will also have the opportunity to deliver high-value services to NextEnergy’s industry and start-up clients, which are developing advanced energy technologies. As such, this individual would have to excel at research, pay close attention to detail, and deliver impeccable customer service. Other projects as needed or arise will be assigned.
Successful candidates should be able to prove that they thrive in a collaborative team-based environment, are flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced workplace, have a strong work ethic, are self-motivated, and have strong verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, the research analyst will need to show that they are passionate about learning, and can grasp new topics quickly and effectively.
This team member must be passionate about technology innovation, entrepreneurship, supporting the economy of the State of Michigan, and/or environmental sustainability. A background in technology or engineering is preferred, but not necessary.
The position requires the candidate to be either a current undergraduate at a two-year or four-year institution of higher education, or a recent graduate. Students currently pursuing a Masters or equivalent degree will be considered as well. Relevant fields of study that will be highly-valued include engineering/technical-related, business-related, and/or environment/energy-related degrees.
Preferably candidates will have had at least one prior professional experience. A combination of past work, extra-curricular, and/or educational experiences in primary and secondary research, strategy, and/or project management is ideal.
Preferred candidates should feel comfortable with the following technology tools and concepts:
Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint & Word)
Google Suite of Collaborative Tools (Drive, Google Docs, Google Calendar, etc.)
Primary and secondary research
Creating research reports, and/or memos
$10 – $15/hour (up to 20 hours per week) – compensation based on prior work experiences.
A letter of recommendation from a current or past employer, colleague, professor, etc. will be requested with the application
A writing sample, or a sample of past research will be required
