N.S. International, Ltd. (“NSI”), a group company of Nippon Seiki, located in Troy, MI, is a tier one supplier of instrument clusters and head-up display units for Chrysler, General Motors, BMW, Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Polaris, Arctic Cat and other OEM’s.

NSI is seeking to fill the role of Mechanical Design Engineer. This role works on product design during the prototype and pre-production phases of a project. Designs instrument clusters in compliance with mechanical engineering principles, company standards, industry standards, and customer contract requirements. Coordinates prototype part builds and product development with local suppliers. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
 Researches and analyzes customer design requirements, specifications, manuals and other data to evaluate the feasibility and basic cost of designs or applications.
 Uses CAD software at a highly skilled level to develop product concepts and designs for instrument panel cluster assemblies and components.
 Creates 3D models, assembly drawings and component drawings of product designs.
 Uses thermal, vibration, stress, and tolerance analysis on designs to determine the theoretical capability, and or to optimize the mechanical design to reduce cost or design complexity.
 Performs analysis techniques such as design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA) to identify and assess design and manufacturing risks.
 Creates specifications, and 2D prints with GD&T for plastic injection molded parts.
 Creates Bill of Material (BOM) based on customer’s Request for Quote (RFQ).
 Tracks issues and coordinates internal meetings and provides updates on programs.
 Assists quality team in resolving issues as required.
 Resolves project issues or concerns.
 Creates and delivers technical presentations for product design review with customer.
 Designs and builds prototypes to conceptualize technologies.
 Researches supplier processes to make prototype parts.
 Places orders for prototype parts, coordinates delivery and resolves issues.
 Sets up final assembly and tuning of prototype parts.
 Communicates and consults with parent company when project issues arise to find alternative design solutions and obtain additional information.
 Interfaces with to customer to further understand design requirements for new product development.
 Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Requirements:
 Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
 5 years of instrument panel cluster mechanical design experience.
 Work requires in-depth knowledge of mechanical design engineering principles.
 Work requires the ability to create 2D & 3D solid models using CAD software (Catia V5/Unigraphics).
 Work requires knowledge of molding design and engineering of injection-molded plastic components.
 Work requires the ability to create a test plan of Design, Validation, Plan Report (DVP & R).
 Work requires the ability to perform design failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA).
 Work requires knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.
 Work requires proficiency in MS Office software: Word, Excel, Power Point and email/ internet software.
 Work requires interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively with customers and multi-cultural teams.
