Recently read an interesting New York Times article. New York Times op-ed columnist NICHOLAS D. KRISTOF wrote an article entitled “More Schools, Not Troops“.
In it he writes,
“Dispatching more troops to Afghanistan would be a monumental bet and probably a bad one, most likely a waste of lives and resources that might simply empower the Taliban. In particular, one of the most compelling arguments against more troops rests on this stunning trade-off: For the cost of a single additional soldier stationed in Afghanistan for one year, we could build roughly 20 schools there.”

I know this is late but I was about to write a whole rant on why certain groups of people don’t think the rules apply to them and how it really puzzles and then I watched this video blog by one of my favorite NY djs and thought that I don’t need to type a thing….
Was reading this article and thought that I had to share…maybe its a lesson we all can learn
Julio Diaz has a daily routine. Every night, the 31-year-old social worker ends his hour-long subway commute to the Bronx one stop early, just so he can eat at his favorite diner.
But one night last month, as Diaz stepped off the No. 6 train and onto a nearly empty platform, his evening took an unexpected turn.
He was walking toward the stairs when a teenage boy approached and pulled out a knife.
“He wants my money, so I just gave him my wallet and told him, ‘Here you go,’” Diaz says.
As the teen began to walk away, Diaz told him, “Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you’re going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm.”

I went and checked out “Law Abiding Citizen” this weekend and I had some interesting thoughts about the movie. Oscar winner, Jamie Foxx and 300 star Gerard Butler gave great performances, one as an ambitious prosecutor and the other as a revenge seeking citizen. I enjoyed the story and twists and turns that the story took and without giving away too much or trying to over analyze the movie like real movie critics do, I think the movie fell short in one particular area.
The movie served its purpose as an action-drama but it also made some valid points about out legal system. I think that this part of the story could have stood a little bit taller on its soapbox than it did. The movie was far from preachy but this particular viewer’s opinion it could have really driven home some social commentary on how although our system is great it can always be corrected and improved.
An interview below from the lead actors.
