Job Description – Infant and Preschool Teacher Assistant

Reports to:   Lead Teacher, Assistant Director, Director and Board of Directors

Hours of work:  Full Time or Part time

Job Summary:  Responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in the daily management of the classroom by guiding each child in their spiritual, emotional, social, academic and physical growth so each child receives a solid educational foundation aligned with High Scope’s Key Developmental Indicators (KDI’s) ,  and the curriculum created by the Little Lambs Educational Committee .  Must also believe in and follow the philosophy and goals of Little Lambs while adhering to all State of Michigan licensing regulations and Little Lambs staff handbook policies.

Position Requirements:

  • One year minimum experience working with children in a child development center preferred
  • Must be certified in Infant, Child, Adult CPR and First Aid
  • Completed ICHAT, background checks, health form and TB results on file
  • Able to perform the physical demands of the position (e.g., able to lift children and/or equipment up to 40lbs, able to stoop, bend, sit, and stand for extended periods of time)
  • Warm, supportive attitude toward children
  • Reliable with a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence
  • Flexible in receiving assignments or adapting to changes in the program
  • Willing to accept supervision in order to improve work performance
  • Willing to perform other duties as required

Responsibilities:

To maintain a safe, soothing and healthy learning environment

  1. Maintains a safe home away from home environment that ensures the well-being of children
  2. Completes necessary paperwork (daily reports, incident reports, injury reports) on a timely basis
  3. Assist children in all aspects of the potty training process
  4. Ensures diapers, feedings and nap times are recorded (for Infants and Toddlers)
  5. Maintains a well maintained, orderly learning environment both indoors and outdoors
  6. Serves and/or prepares meals and snacks to children while promoting healthy eating practices
  7. Aware of children’s allergies or food restrictions
  8. Assist in preparing the room and children for nap time
  • To support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance
  • To advance physical and intellectual competence
  • To establish positive, professional and productive relationships with families
