Villanova Institute – Associate Director for eLearning Pedagogy
The Villanova Institute for Teaching and Learning (VITAL) a University-wide center, provides and coordinates services and resources for faculty to foster student learning by supporting teaching excellence. The Associate Director (AD) of VITAL for e-Learning Pedagogy will report to the Director of VITAL and will work closely with the Director on aspects of strategic planning to support Villanova University’s comprehensive e-Learning portfolio. The AD will direct VITAL programs and services that lend pedagogical support to e-Learning initiatives in Villanova’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The AD will work with academic departments and other University offices to provide evidence-based support in the development and implementation of online and blended learning experiences consistent with the goals of Villanova University’s Academic Strategic Plan.
Because Villanova’s broad e-Learning portfolio includes all programs in which technology is an integral part of the pedagogical approach and/or delivery, the AD will also have cross-functional responsibilities. These responsibilities will involve participating in and sometimes leading cross-functional teams, involving personnel from offices such as the Office of the Provost, UNIT-Center for Instructional Technologies, Office of Planning and Institutional Research, Falvey Library to develop strategies, processes, and services that support the e-Learning portfolio across the University’s undergraduate and graduate programs. The AD will play a significant advisory role in the expansion of e-Learning at Villanova University.
The AD is intended to have the opportunity to teach one online course per semester in his/her academic area of expertise as part of the position appointment with approval of the VITAL director and subject to department / program scheduling needs.
Qualifications: Earned Master’s degree in education-related field, instructional design, instructional technology, or other relevant field required. Doctoral degree in education-related field, instructional design, instructional technology or other relevant field preferred. Three years as a continuing non-tenure track, tenure-track or tenured college or university faculty member and/or three years’ experience designing, managing, and assessing online, blended, and other technology-mediated instruction in higher education. Teaching experience in higher education including both in-person and online formats, and use of technology-enhanced teaching highly desirable. Prior experience in faculty development work preferred.
