School of Social Work has exciting events planned for 2013!

Happy Holidays to all!  Before you know it, the winter term 2013 will be upon us . Mark your calendar for these important events.

The winter semester Meet and Greet with the dean and faculty is scheduled for January 10, 2013 from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Hilberry Theater, across the street from the Thompson Home.  Healthy snacks will be provided with a focus on wellness and providing updates on events and activities scheduled for the semester.
CONCENTRATION/CURRICULUM DAY is Saturday, January 12, 2013, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Wayne State University McGregor Memorial Conference Center.  Who should attend:  All senior BSW students who are applying for admission or admitted to the MSW Program, First year Full-time MSW students preparing for the advanced year curriculum, Second year Part-time MSW Students preparing for the advanced year curriculum, All prospective students interested in the Wayne State University MSW program and who want to learn more about the advanced year concentrations/curriculum.  The purpose of this event is to explain the Wayne State University School of Social Work’s curriculum for the advanced year of the MSW program.
Annual Dean\’s Diversity Lecture schedule for March 21, 2013.  The lecture to be held from, 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Spencer Partrich Law School Auditorium on the Wayne State University Campus will focus on Cultural Competence with LGBTQI populations and will feature a keynote speaker; Lori Messinger, M.A., M.S.W., Ph.D., Professor and Director, School of Social Work, College of Health and Human Services, University of North Carolina, Wilmington . There will be a book signing of the book she co-authored with Deana Morrow, Sexual Orientation And Gender Expression in Social Work Practice: Working With Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, And Transgender People, Columbia University Press, Jan 16, 2006.  The lecture includes a panel discussion with representatives from the faculty, student organization, and the practice field. Two CECHs available with a $10.00 processing fee payable at the lecture. No RSVP or prepayment.
Alumni Association announces honorees. The Annual Awards luncheon hosted by the Alumni Association will be held Friday, March 29, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the McGregor Memorial Conference Center.  To be honored are Alumnus of the Year, Risarg (Reggie) Huff, director of homeless services for Neighborhood Services Organization and Citizen of the Year, recording star and community activist, Kem.   Online registration will be available soon.
Happy Holidays to all. Wayne State University will be closed from Monday,
December 24th through Tuesday, January 1st.
